All politics is local — so the saying goes.

Incumbent Mayor Justin Wilson defeated challenger former Mayor Allison Silberberg, according to results released Tuesday evening in the Democratic primary. Mayor Wilson received 57.21 percent of the votes to Silberberg's 42.79 percent citywide.

With all precincts reporting and absentee ballots counted, 22,734 Alexandria residents voted.

Silberberg won at four voting locations — City Hall, Lyles Crouch, George Mason and Temple Beth El.
