14 more people have received new positive test results for COVID-19 in Douglas County, as of Saturday.
An update from the Douglas County COVID-19 Response Team said the total number of cases is now at 2,709. Of those, 2,577 are people that have received positive test results and 132 are presumptive. There have been 58 deaths. 11 Douglas County COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 7 locally and 4 outside the area. 168 people are in isolation. 548 people are in quarantine. That means the staff with the Douglas Public Health Network are supporting 716 people that are either in isolation or quarantine. That is an increase of 78 people since Friday.
The update said the number of cases in the county is coming down but is still too high. In the last month, the county had:
*179 cases for the week of February 7th
*174 cases for the week of February 14th
*148 cases for the week of February 21st
*134 cases for the week of February 28th
*106 cases for the week of March 8th
The cluster of cases are linked to all kinds of entities, factors, age groups and geographic areas including a wide variety of businesses, service providers, schools, churches, and short and long-term care facilities. They are also tied to large social gatherings and a variety of other activities.
County Public Health Officer Dr. Bob Dannenhoffer said the recent surge of cases is a crossroads for Douglas County. He said the county had some of the lowest COVID-19 case numbers in the nation for nearly a year, and the current numbers are still lower than the national average. Dannenhoffer said he is very concerned about the recent surge and worries that if residents do not work together to bring the number of cases down, the county will have to stay at the Extreme Risk Level. He said that would bring continued economic, mental and social harm to residents.
The next drive through testing clinic will be Friday in Roseburg.
