WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Drew McIntyre locks down final Raw Money in the Bank spot - CBSSports.com

After failing to win their Money in the Bank qualifying matches on last week's Raw, Drew McIntyre, Randy Orton and AJ Styles were set to battle in a last chance qualifier on Monday night. Unfortunately, Orton wasn't able to compete, leaving his new tag team partner to try to carry him to the upcoming ladder match.

Riddle stepped in for Orton, successfully appealing to WWE officials to allow him to compete on Orton's behalf. After qualifying successfully for himself last week, Riddle wasn't quite able to pull out the win for his friend, instead falling to McIntyre's Claymore in the main event of the night.

CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from the ThunderDome inside Yuengling Center in Tampa.

Drew McIntyre grabs final Raw Money in the Bank spot

The show began with the announcement that Randy Orton was unable to compete due to circumstances beyond WWE's control and a battle royal would be held to determine the third man in the night's triple threat. Riddle successfully appealed to compete on Orton's behalf, entering the show-opening battle royal. During the match, Drew Gulak pinned Akira Tozawa to win the 24/7 title, R-Truth pinned Gulak to win the belt and then Tozawa scored a pin to leave with the title. The match came down to Riddle and Damian Priest as the final two before Riddle was able to secure the win and advance to the triple threat.

Drew McIntyre def. AJ Styles and Riddle in a Money in the Bank qualifier. During the lengthy match, Riddle pulled out some Orton moves -- he earlier in the night claimed that for the match he was Orton -- including Orton's trademark hanging DDT. Riddle kicked the ring steps during the match, leading him to be taken off by WWE officials as he cried out that he couldn't let Orton down. It was Styles and McIntyre one-on-one until Riddle limped back to the ring with his foot and ankle taped up. Styles tried to hit Riddle with a Phenomenal Forearm, but Riddle countered with a jumping knee and an RKO. Before the referee could count to three, Omos pulled Styles from the ring and McIntyre hit Riddle with a Claymore to score the win and advance to Money in the Bank.

Riddle's story through the night was great, between his competitive nature and the goofy comedy bits, he really got a chance to shine and delivered in big ways. Unfortunately, McIntyre is the least interesting option for inclusion in the Money in the Bank match and his new character trait of telling stories from history and how they relate to his current situation is a nightmare decision by the Raw writing room. Still, full credit for the matches and Riddle's work. Grade: B+

What else happened on WWE Raw?

  • Nikki Cross def. Shayna Baszler via pinfall with la magistral cradle. Alexa Bliss made her way to ringside and took out Nia Jax and Reginald to help cause a distraction that allowed Cross to score the win.
  • Kofi Kingston took out MVP after the two men went back and forth on the mic. Kingston was fired up from MVP aiding Bobby Lashley in attacking Xavier Woods last week and vowed to beat Lashley. MVP said he'd fight Kingston, but his knee injury left him not "cleared for combat." Kingston ran from the ring and laid out MVP with Trouble in Paradise to end a tremendous segment.
  • Dudrop & Eva Marie def. Asuka & Naomi via pinfall when Dudrop pinned Asuka. Eva Marie claimed Dudrop abandoning her mid-match last week was a rookie mistake. Marie tried to do the same this match, but Dudrop still got the win after a running crossbody on a seated Asuka. After the match, Marie took the microphone to announce herself as the winner.
  • Ricochet vs. John Morrison ended in a double count out. After a lengthy match, Ricochet hit a dive on Morrison as he was behind the ringside barricade. Neither man made it back to into the ring before the referee's count hit 10.
  • Charlotte Flair, Tamina & Natalya def. Mandy Rose, Dana Brooke & Rhea Ripley via pinfall when Flair hit Rose with a big boot. After the match, Ripley hit Flair with a chop block before running off.
  • Jaxson Ryker def. Elias via pinfall in a strap match. Ryker was shown backstage throughout the show whipping himself with the strap.
