Day 2 of the U.S. Olympic track and field trials brings event finals for the women’s discus and the women’s 100 meters. But in between those finals, there will be plenty of other action on the track and in the field at Eugene’s Hayward Field.

LIVE UPDATES

Men’s 800 meters, semifinals: Donavan Brazier, who trains with the Portland-based Pete Julian group, places second in his heat, crossing in 1:46.57, just behind Clayton Murphy (1:46.26). Brannon Kidder is third. In the second heat,

Men’s triple jump, qualifying: Will Claye has the biggest jump of the day at 55 feet, 3 1/2 inches. Donald Scott and Chris Benard round out the top three, while the University of Oregon’s Isaiah Griffith leaps 53-3 1/2 to place eighth and advance to Monday’s final.

Women’s 1,500 meters, semifinals: Elle Purrier St. Pierre wins the first semifinal in 4:09.18. Jenny Simpson places second and Dani Aragon is third. Nikki Hiltz (4:05.87), Cory McGee and Sinclaire Johnson go 1-2-3 in the second semifinal heat.

Women’s 100 meters, semifinals: Sha’Carri Richardson easily wins her semifinal heat, posting a 10.64 while pointing to the clock as she crosses the finish line. Teahna Daniels (10.84) and Jenna Prandini (10.96) also move through to the final later tonight. In the other semifinal heat, Aleia Hobbs false starts. Then Javianne Oliver wins it in 10.83, followed by Gabby Thomas (10.95) and former Oregon Ducks star English Gardner (10.96). Kayla White and Candace Hill will round out the field of eight for the final.

Men’s 100 meters, first round: The top three in the first heat are Kenny Bednarek (10.07 seconds), Isiah Young (10.08) and Cravon Gillespie (10.20). In the second heat, Trayvon Bromell wins it in 9.84, followed by Justin Gatlin (9.93) and Oregon’s Micah Williams (9.95). Marvin Bracy-Williams takes the third heat, posting a 10.00, with Christopher Belcher second in 10.01 and Kyree King third in 10.05. In the final heat, Ronnie Baker wins it in 9.88, followed by Fred Kerley (9.93) and Noah Lyles (9.95).

Women’s 100 hurdles, first round: The four heat winners are Keni Harrison (12.49 seconds), Taliyah Brooks (12.61), Anna Cockrell (12.63) and Brianna McNeal (12.50). They lead a field of 16 who advance to Sunday’s semifinals.

Men’s pole vault qualifying: Six vaulters have cleared the first two heights (17 feet, 8 1/2 inches and 18-0 1/2) without a miss. Former Ducks pole vaulter Cole Walsh cleared the opening height and has one miss thus far at 18-0 1/2. After clearing that height, he had one miss at 18-4 1/2 before then clearing the bar at that height. Nine vaulters cleared 18-6 1/2 without a miss to move on to the final. Walsh did not clear 18-6 1/2 and he finishes in 13th place, just outside of the top 12 who advance to Monday’s final.

Decathlon Day 1 (100 meters, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400 meters): Through four events, Kyle Garland of the University of Georgia is in the lead with 3,681 points. Zach Ziemek is second at 3,635. The final event of the day is the 400 meters, and then the final five events of the competition come Sunday. After the 400, Garrett Scantling moves up to the lead with 4,494 points. Garland falls to second, with 4,424, followed by Ziemek at 4,409.

Here are the athletes with Oregon ties competing on Saturday ...

MEN’S POLE VAULT

(Qualifying at 4:30 p.m.)

Cole Walsh (former UO): Walsh has cleared 18 feet, 4 1/2 inches. He has one miss at that height and one miss at 18-0 1/2. But he does not clear 18-6 1/2 and he finishes 13th in the competition, just outside of the top 12 who will advance to Monday’s final.

MEN’S TRIPLE JUMP

(Qualifying at 5:15 p.m.)

Isaiah Griffith (UO): Griffith leaps a personal-best 53 feet, 3 3/4 inches on his second jump of the day. He sits in eighth place after two jumps, and the top 12 will advance to Monday’s final. Griffith stays in eighth to advance to the final.

MEN’S 100 METERS

(First-round heats at 5:34 p.m.)

Cravon Gillespie (former UO): Gillespie clocks a 10.20 to finish third in his first-round heat and advance to Sunday’s semifinals.

Kyree King (former UO): King advances to the semifinals by placing third in his heat with a time of 10.05.

Micah Williams (UO, former Benson High School): Williams breaks 10 seconds by posting a 9.95 to take third in his heat and advance to Sunday’s semifinal round.

WOMEN’S 100 METERS

(Semifinals at 6:03 p.m., Final at 7:51 p.m.)

English Gardner (former UO): Gardner posts a 10.96 to take third in her semifinal heat and advance to the final later Saturday night.

Jenna Prandini (former UO): Prandini clocks a 10.96 in the semifinals to finish third in her heat and move on to the final.

WOMEN’S 1,500 METERS

(Semifinals at 6:40 p.m.)

Ella Donaghu (former Grant High School): Donaghu, who runs for Stanford, finished ninth in her semifinal heat and does not advance to Monday’s final.

Nikki Hiltz (former UO): Hiltz wins their semifinal heat in 4:05.87 to advance to the final on Monday.

Sinclaire Johnson (Bowerman Track Club): Johnson places third in her semifinal heat, crossing in 4:06.04 to make the field of 12 for the final.

Rebecca Mehra (Bend): Mehra finishes fifth in the first semifinal heat to automatically qualify for the final.

MEN’S 800 METERS

(Semifinals at 7:04 p.m.)

Donavan Brazier (Pete Julian group): Brazier finishes second in his heat with a time of 1 minute, 46.57 seconds. That puts him in Monday’s final.

WOMEN’S 400 METERS

(Semifinals at 7:20 p.m.)
