NEW CUMBERLAND — Hancock County Senior Services will welcome guests back to its building on Gas Valley Road beginning Monday.

The center will offer activities on a limited capacity from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fridays. Several new protocols are required for staff members and clients to minimize transmission of the COVID-19 virus, officials explained.

All clients and staff members will be required to follow proper hygiene and wear a mask, except for reasons specified in the governor’s order. To maintain social distancing, seating capacity will be limited. Additional protocols are in place and will be posted and communicated to everyone who enters the building.

“We realize the changes to the center may limit the number of participants who can be in the center at one time, but they are in place to provide a safer experience for everyone,” said Beth Wolanski, director. “We are balancing the needs of our participants with our capacity and resources and hope to service as many as possible.”

The Committee for Hancock County Senior Citizens has been providing nonskilled in-home services, transportation and social services and activities to adults 60 and older since 1976. The center was temporarily closed because of the pandemic in March 2020, but the staff has continued to provide transportation services, well-care checks and in-home services, officials explained.
