The City Council introduced a planning and zoning ordinance at the meeting Monday that will change zoning to allow for Clay Mayeaux to open another eatery on Front Street. Mayeaux wants additional zoning for the Nakatosh Deli and Pub at the corner of Church and Front streets. He is waiting on the state to issue a liquor license and the City to approve the additional zoning that will allow for alcohol sales. He said the pub will sell “grab and go” food such as pizzas, sandwiches, chicken wings, salad, wraps and more. The vote on the ordinance should come at the Oct. 25 meeting.
In other business, the council adopted ordinances that will allow Paul’s Party Boat to operate a pontoon boat in addition to the Cane River Queen for river cruises during the Christmas season; approved a budget amendment covering stimulus money and increases in sales tax revenue that called for restructuring building permit fees in the planning and zoning department.
The only ordinance introduced was one that will allow Southern Lights LLC to operate a fiber optics transmission cable. The franchise is non-exclusive and the company must obtain permits from the utility department specifying where the cables will be laid. The council adopted a resolution appointing Janice Bolton to replace Mike Hilton on the Natchitoches Airport Advisory Commission.
Councilperson-at-Large Betty Sawyer-Smith announced there will be another Stop the Violence event Oct. 30 at Highland Park from 2-6 p.m. She and other community members hope to involve youth in an effort to stem violence.

The next scheduled City Council meeting is Oct. 25.
