Alexandria City Council attracted 13 candidates to vie for six seats. Here's a look at the six who got the most votes in the race.

Here's a look at how they fared on Tuesday.

Those in bold and italicized are the top six vote-getters who will be on the ballot in November with a handful of Republican and Independent candidates.

  • Canek Aguirre (incumbent): 9.95
  • Sarah R. Bagley: 8.91
  • William E. ‘Bill’ Campbell: 5.55
  • John Taylor Chapman (incumbent): 12.07
  • Alyia Smith-Parker Gaskins: 11.96
  • Kevin J. Harris: 6.56
  • Amy B. Jackson (incumbent): 11.03
  • James C. Lewis Jr.: 5.93
  • Kirk McPike: 7.23
  • Patrick B. Moran: 5.56
  • William C. ‘Bill’ Rossello: 5.69
  • Mark Leo Shiffer: 3.66
  • Meronne E. Teklu: 5.89

All incumbents (Aguirre, Chapman and Jackson) received enough votes Tuesday to get on the November general election ballot. Other city council members who did not run this year were Del Pepper, who announced her retirement; Elizabeth Bennett-Parker, who ran for the 45th District delegate seat and won her primary Tuesday night; Mo Seifeldein declined to run again.

Each voter in Alexandria could vote for up to six candidates. The top six vote-getters will move on to the November general election; the top vote-getter there will become vice mayor.
