So far, the special election voting results show only 14 percent of district three's residents voted for this year's council member race.
VICTORIA, Texas – Online voting results show Duane Crocker leading the district three council member race with 42 percent of the votes, Chad Austin Hall accumulating 23 percent, and Lee Andrew Cantu coming in third with 16 percent.
Even though these results do not exemplify the entire official numbers yet, Crocker feels humbled getting all of this support.
Not only has Crocker grown up with Jeff Bauknight, he’s also had current council member Jan Scott as a law partner before.
Crocker’s career has allowed him to gain experience representing business entities, obtaining vendors, budgeting, tax rate analysis, infrastructure development, strategic planning, understanding public governance, and open government.
During this campaign Crocker said he’s enjoyed getting out in the public more, attending numerous events, and talking to more locals. Especially because the public has been able to learn more about him.
“I was excited, but also pleased with the preliminary results. Anyway, with 5 candidates in the race mathematically a run-off almost seemed inevitable. In reality, it was inevitable with 5 candidates in the race, so I’m just very humbled and appreciative of the support that I’ve gotten,” Crocker said.
Similarly, Chad Hall has really enjoyed this campaign experience. On Saturday, July 3, Hall was still knocking door to door trying to increase the voter turnout.
“It’s been wonderful. One of the best parts for us is actually being able to visit with our neighbors and go door to door and have a reason to speak to everybody. It’s been wonderful, we have so many great stories to tell from the people that we’ve actually met in district three. Going door to door,” Hall said.
Since Hall had a later start in race, he was about 4 to 6 weeks behind everyone else.
“We’re encouraged, we know that we’re behind but we also started the race behind. We got in the race in the last second. Literally, two hours before the deadline and we were about 4 to 6 weeks behind everyone else. So to tentatively be in the position that we are in, we are very excited. We are encouraged with the outpouring support we’re getting. We’ve been going door to door and visiting with hundreds of neighbors. We are going to continue to do that and we are going to run a campaign that will make you all proud,” he explained.
The official results for district three’s council race are expected to show online Tuesday, July 6.
