In the first quarter the Houston Texans defense didn’t do their job and it allowed the Indianapolis Colts to have a 51-yard touchdown pass from Colts quarterback Carson Wentz, showing he’s still capable of making the big play when healthy.
The touchdown in the Week 6 game, allowed by the Houston Texans defense, was poor coverage by the secondary, and it embarrassing by the Texans that early in the game. The catch was made by wide receiver Paris Campbell of the Colts, and not even with the first quarter completed the Texans defense has allowed over 100 yards passing by Wentz.
Below is the passing play for the 50-plus yard touchdown by Wentz to Campbell that resulted in the Colts scoring the first touchdown of the Week 6 AFC South game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis:
This play overall could happen on more than just this play in the first quarter if the secondary, especially the safeties of the Texans don’t regroup and revamp their play for the rest of the game. When healthy, Wentz is a tough quarterback to stop when he’s at the top of his game. After this touchdown pass it is evident he came ready to play like he has played in the past, which is bad news for the Texans defense.
The Houston Texans must improve moving forward in this game, or it could be a very long day for the team, especially the defense. Houston’s offense needs to respond, and if they can’t put points on the board, and have drives that matter, it will be a repeat of past performances in 2021, resulting in another loss.
What are your thoughts on how the Houston Texans defense has played up to this point of the game, and how can this unit fix their mistakes so far in Week 6?
