With Hell in a Cell less than one week away, some of the top stars on the WWE roster spent Monday night's edition of Raw sending final messages ahead of the pay-per-view event. Included in those attempting to make a statement were Drew McIntyre and WWE champion Bobby Lashley.

McIntyre will challenge Lashley for the title inside Hell in a Cell on Sunday. The challenger was set to face AJ Styles in singles action in the Raw main event, but escalating chaos led to an impromptu six-man tag match that saw McIntyre drive home the seriousness of his challenge with a Claymore to the face of Lashley.

CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from the ThunderDome inside Yuengling Center in Tampa.

McIntyre and Lashley send final messages

McIntyre was interviewed backstage earlier in the night, saying he would now be calling Lashley "Trashley" for his attitude and the company he keeps. McIntyre then brought up William Wallace again, pushing the idea that Scots are masters of strategy and suggesting he had a strategy to deal with Lashley inside Hell in a Cell. Later in the show, Lashley said McIntyre would face the same fate as Wallace, who was ultimately captured and executed.

Drew McIntyre def. AJ Styles via disqualification after interference from Bobby Lashley. Lashley made his way to a set of couches on the entrance ramp before the planned match between McIntyre and Styles. As Lashley attempted to interfere in the match and Omos was at ringside, The Viking Raiders made their way to the ring, evening the odds and setting the wheels in motion for the match to be changed into a six-man tag. McIntyre eventually took a shot at Lashley outside the ring, leading Lashley to jump into the ring and a brawl to break out.

Drew McIntyre & The Viking Raiders def. Bobby Lashley, AJ Styles & Omos via pinfall when McIntyre hit Lashley with a Claymore. The end of the previous match led to the old Raw standby of a random six-man tag match. In the end, Lashley expected Styles to tag out to Omos, but the tag came to him instead. As a confused Lashley entered the ring, McIntyre took him out with a Claymore for the victory, giving McIntyre the last pre-Hell in a Cell laugh.

Historically, getting a head-to-head victory before a pay-per-view match is a sure-fire sign you're going to lose "the big one." McIntyre could certainly win the title on Sunday, but that would continue his run of winning without a crowd in attendance, so WWE may well choose to delay going to that well again. Either way, it's time to be done with Lashley vs. McIntyre as the feud has more than overstayed its welcome and running them through the stale Raw staple of impromptu six-man tag matches doesn't add any freshness at all. Grade: C-

What else happened on WWE Raw?

  • Alexa Bliss opened the show in her Playground, saying she put Lilly in timeout for her actions last week against Shayna Baszler. Nia Jax interrupted to say Baszler would see Bliss at Hell in a Cell, before challenging Bliss to a singles match later in the night.
  • Nikki Cross def. Charlotte Flair via count out. Before the match, Flair complained to Sonya Deville about needing to get the loss to Cross off her record. Rhea Ripley came to ringside just a minute into the match. Flair eventually was distracted enough by Ripley that she was counted out, giving Cross another win. Flair attacked Cross after the match but Ripley came into the ring to hit her with Riptide.
  • John Morrison def. Jeff Hardy via pinfall with Starship Pain. Cedric Alexander came to ringside shortly after the start of the match. After the match, Alexander apologized for not sending Hardy to a retirement home last week. Hardy said he'd retire if Alexander could beat him right in that moment.
  • Jeff Hardy def. Cedric Alexander via pinfall after a swanton. Alexander missed his own swanton attempt to set up the finish, saving Hardy's career.
  • Piper Niven def. Naomi via pinfall with a Michinoku driver. Niven was with Eva Marie, who was supposed to be Naomi's opponent. After Niven won easily, Eva took the microphone to announce herself the winner.
  • RK-Bro def. The New Day via pinfall after Randy Orton hit Xavier Woods with an RKO to end a long, highly competitive match.
  • Rhea Ripley def. Asuka via pinfall after hitting Riptide. Unsurprisingly, Flair attacked her after the match. Ripley and Flair brawled as the referee attempted to separate them. The brawl continued until the two women were finally pulled apart by a group of officials, with Flair suffering a bloody nose in the process.
  • Alexa Bliss def. Nia Jax via disqualification after Reginald interfered in the match. Bliss hit Jax with Twisted Bliss when Reginald ran into the ring and broke the pin. After the match, Bliss and Reginald came face to face with her briefly mimicking his movements before leaving the ring.
  • Jaxson Ryker def. Elias via count out. Elias tried to take the fight to Ryker early but after Ryker took the match over, Elias chose not to reenter the ring, choosing to take the count out.
