Two long shots have found their way into the 2021 French Open women's singles final. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia and Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic will face off for the title on Saturday, and a first-time Grand Slam winner will be crowned this year in Paris.

There were notable absences (Naomi Osaka) injuries (Simona Halep, Ashleigh Barty, Petra Kvitova) and upsets (Serena Williams) on the women's draw this year. And while the two finalists might not be familiar names to the basic tennis fan, the women's game boasts incredible depth and these two players rose to the occasion to each win six tough matches and reach the final.

Pavlyuchenkova, 29, finally broke through after she had lost in six previous Grand Slam singles quarterfinals, including at the French Open in 2011. Seeded 31st in this tournament, Pavlyuchenkova has reached a Grand Slam final for the first time in 52 major appearances. She's the first woman singles player to play in more than 50 Grand Slam tournaments before competing in his first final.

Krejcikova, 25, came into this year's French Open unseeded but with momentum. Krejcikova won the women's singles title at Strasbourg, a clay-court primer tournament for the French Open, and she now enters the final on an 11-match win streak.
