The Las Vegas Raiders were down, but never out, in their first NFL home game, a 34-24 win over Drew Brees and the Saints on Monday night.
The Saints jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, stymying quarterback Derek Carr, running back Josh Jacobs and the Raiders' offense. For a while, it looked as if New Orleans would run the Raiders out of their new building in their debut — before Las Vegas finally found its footing.
The Raiders scored on drives of 11 and 10 plays before the half, capped by Carr touchdown passes of 3 yards and 15 yards to Alec Ingold and Zay Jones, respectively. The Saints had a chance for a quick score before halftime, but a Nicholas Morrow interception in New Orleans territory led to a last-second Raiders field goal that tied the game at 17. The Raiders wouldn't trail again.
Las Vegas scored on its first drive of the second half, capping a nine-play, 75-yard drive with a fourth-down, 1-yard touchdown connection between Carr and tight end Darren Waller. The big-bodied Waller was Carr's favorite target on the night, accounting for 12 receptions, 103 yards and a touchdown. Jalen Richard scored the final Raiders touchdown on a 30-yard rush in the fourth quarter.
New Orleans running back Alvin Kamara made it a one-possession game near the end of regulation with a 4-yard touchdown run, but a 54-yard field goal from Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson left the Saints too much to do in too little time.

Carr completed 28 of 38 passes for 328 yards and three touchdowns to no interceptions. He outperformed his Saints counterpart, Brees, who completed 26 of 38 passes for 312 yards, with a touchdown and an interception. Kamara led all players in all-purpose yards, rushing 13 times for 79 yards and catching nine passes for 95 more. Jacobs rushed 27 times for 88 yards.
But perhaps the biggest factor in Las Vegas' win was this: The Raiders were called for three penalties for 13 yards, compared to 10 penalties for 129 yards for the Saints.

Raiders vs. Saints updates, highlights from 'Monday Night Football'
Final: Raiders 34, Saints 24
11:30 p.m.: Saints move the ball downfield but don't threaten to score before time runs out. That'll do it in Las Vegas.
11:27 p.m.: Saints take over at their 25 with 1:05 remaining and down 10 points.
11:26 p.m.: FIELD GOAL, RAIDERS. Carlson has ice in his veins; he boots the 54-yarder straight down the middle with room for more. That makes it 34-24, Raiders, and should be the end of this game.
11:24 p.m.: Saints get the stop and force a 54-yard field goal attempt with 1:07 remaining. If Carlson sinks it, that should be the game. If not, Brees and the Saints get the ball back with about a minute left.
11:19 p.m.: Janoris Jenkins is called for his second pass interference on the rookie Ruggs, giving Las Vegas the ball at the Saints 36 with 2:08 remaining. That should do it barring something crazy.
11:16 p.m.: And here come the Raiders: They get a 12-yard rumble from Jacobs — look for them to try to run the clock out here.
11:12 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, SAINTS. And New Orleans gets on the board for the first time since the second quarter off a Kamara 4-yard run. Las Vegas went with the prevent defense and allowed New Orleans to go 67 yards in eight plays and 3:10 of elapsed time.
11:11 p.m.: Saints trying to get something going. They have it first-and-10 from the Raiders' 32-yard line.
11:04 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, RAIDERS. Richard makes up for his previous fumble with a 20-yard run on, you guessed it, a toss left. Some nice moves from him to evade defenders and stay inbounds to make it 31-17 Las Vegas. That's 24 unanswered points for the Raiders.
10:57 p.m.: Carr hits Hunter Renfrow over the middle for the third-down conversion; Renfrow is injured in the process but leaves the field on his own power.
10:55 p.m.: Jacobs is back in the game and immediately tackled by his collar. That'll give the Raiders a fresh set of downs at their 49. Saints meanwhile have more than 100 penalty yards.
10:54 p.m.: Waller gets his 11th and 12th catches of the day for 18 and 2 yards; he's now over 100 yards for the day.
10:52 p.m.: Saints can't get anything going after a first down and will give it right back. Las Vegas will take over at its 10 with little over 12 minutes remaining.
10:43 p.m.: FUMBLE RECOVERED BY SAINTS. There's the Raiders' first turnover of the game: Jalen Richard can't bring in the toss, and P.J. Williams jumps on it for New Orleans. That ends a 12-play drive that ate up 6:46 of game clock. Saints will take over at their 40.
10:42 p.m.: And there's Waller with his 10th catch of the game. He has 83 receiving yards so far.
Third quarter: Raiders 24, Saints 17
10:40 p.m.: Raiders keep it moving thanks to a 1-yard fourth-down conversion by Jacobs, but he comes up a little gimpy.
10:24 p.m.: Saints have to punt on fourth-and-14. Wasted drive killed by penalties, there. Raiders will take over at their 12.
10:23 p.m.: Wow, and now there's an illegal blindside block by Emmanuel Sanders. It's second-and-31 at the Saints 40.
10:21 p.m.: And there's another holding penalty on New Orleans. It's now second-and-25 at the Saints 45.
10:19 p.m.: A lot going on during that play — Kamara fumbles the ball, but it's recovered by the Saints. But New Orleans was also called for holding to make it first-and-20 at the Raiders 49.
10:15 p.m.: Brees checks down to Kamara for a 20-yard gain. The Saints follow that up with a 15-yard screen to Josh Hill to get into Raiders territory quick.
10:11 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, RAIDERS. The Raiders take their first lead with a 1-yard touchdown from Carr to Waller. The Saints sold out for the run, but Carr rolled out and found Waller all alone in the end zone.
10:10 p.m.: Yikes. Raiders nearly fumbled the ball two straight plays from the 1-yard line, but come up with it both times. That did come after a pretty nice run by Jacobs though:
10:07 p.m.: Carr's slinging it all over the place to Edwards, Waller and now Foster Moreau for a 31-yard gain to the New Orleans 7.
10:05 p.m.: Carr misses Edwards, but Marshon Lattimore is called for pass interference. Las Vegas gets a new set of downs at the 49.
10:03 p.m.: And we're back at it. Raiders take over at their 25.
Halftime: Saints 17, Raiders 17
9:50 p.m.: Some halftime stats: Carr is 17 of 23 through the air for 177 yards and two touchdowns; his biggest targets thus far are Edwards and Waller, who have 54 and 42 receiving yards, respectively. Jacobs has 11 carries for 26 yards, as well as two receptions for 15 yards.
For the Saints, Brees is 9 of 18 for 136 yards and one touchdown to one interception. Smith is his biggest receiver, nabbing four receptions for 80 yards. Kamara has 60 yards on nine carries and 23 yards off two receptions.
9:47 p.m.: FIELD GOAL, RAIDERS. The Raiders' drive stalls at the 9-yard line, but that's plenty close enough for Daniel Carlson to knock through the game-tying field goal.
9:45 p.m.: Raiders are now inside the 20-yard line thanks to a 12-yard reception by Waller, who has been a big target for Carr in this first half.
9:40 p.m.: INTERCEPTION, RAIDERS. Nicholas Morrow picks off Brees and gets the Raiders the ball at Saints 40 with 48 seconds and three timeouts. A complete turn of events right before the half.
9:35 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, RAIDERS. And there's another touchdown for the Raiders, this time on a 15-yard comeback route to Zay Jones to make it 17-14 Saints. That's big, considering Las Vegas gets the ball back to start the second half. Las Vegas scores on two drives of 11 and 10 plays, respectively, to make it a field goal game.
9:29 p.m.: Carr converts another third down with a 20-yard gain to Edwards down to the 16-yard line.
9:26 p.m.: A nice move by Nelson Agholor gets the Raiders a much-needed first down. They're driving at the 49.
9:20 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, SAINTS. Brees hits Jared Cook for a 6-yard touchdown on the inside slant, making him 4 of 5 for 74 yards and a score on that drive.
9:17 p.m.: Brees hits his third different target to get inside the 25, but he's a little gimpy walking into the huddle. Something to monitor, potentially.
9:13 p.m.: Saints get right back at it with a 16-yard screen to Kamara out to the 40.
9:09 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, RAIDERS. And now the Raiders are on the board: a 3-yard connection between Carr and fullback Alec Ingold in the flat. Nice play call to use Waller as bait there, and it's run to perfection.
9:08 p.m.: Carr hits Darren Waller for a couple 13-yard gains and the Raiders are knocking at the 3-yard line.
9:05 p.m.: Raiders get a couple of hard-fought third-and-1 conversions and are driving deep into Saints territory.
First quarter: Saints 10, Raiders 0
8:57 p.m.: Las Vegas gets a much-needed three-and-out after Jared Cook is called for a pass interference. Raiders will take over at their 37 with 13 seconds remaining in the quarter.
8:52 p.m.: Carr hits Bryan Edwards for a 22-yard gain but only goes backward from there after consecutive sacks. Saints take over at their 20 after the punt.
8:50 p.m.: Raiders take over at their 29, down two scores. They need to get something going here.
8:43 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, SAINTS. And now the Saints have the first touchdown in Allegiant Stadium history, a 1-yard touchdown run off tackle by Kamara. They get the point-after after a couple tries due to penalties from both teams.
8:40 p.m.: Raiders safety Johnathan Abram is injured on the touchdown-saving play after running into official Sarah Thomas next to the TV cart. He appears to be OK.
8:37 p.m.: Tre'Quan Smith makes a nice catch-and-run for 29 yards all the way to the Las Vegas 4. They're having no trouble moving the ball without Thomas.
8:35 p.m.: Kamara is gashing the Raiders early; he has two runs of 13 and 21 yards. The Saints are now at Las Vegas' 35-yard line.
8:28 p.m.: The Saints' Malcolm Jenkins sacks Carr for a loss of 14 after he tries to retreat back into the oncoming blitz. The Raiders get a little back on third-and-23, but they'll punt on fourth-and-13. Saints to take over at their own 22.
8:26 p.m.: Now it's the Raiders' turn on offense.
8:24 p.m.: FIELD GOAL, SAINTS. And Wil Lutz makes NFL history as the first person to score inside Allegiant Stadium, with a 31-yard field goal.
8:22 p.m.: Saints drive all the way inside the 15, but a big hit from Erik Harris knocks loose a third-down converting reception from Tre'Quan Smith. Field goal attempt upcoming.
8:18 p.m.: New Orleans crosses midfield and deep into Raiders territory, all off chunk run plays. The Saints have four passes to one incompletion so far.
8:15 p.m.: And "Monday Night Football" is off. Saints will receive the ball after the Raiders defer.
