Duke University’s comprehensive COVID-19 testing program received results from 14,141 tests administered to students, faculty and staff from September 19-25, 2020. In total, there were eight positive results – two faculty/staff and six students.
Summary:
In this period:

12,614 surveillance tests were administered to asymptomatic students; there were six positive results. An additional 104 tests were administered to students who reported symptoms or were identified through contact tracing with no positive results. Three students who had previously tested positive were cleared to return to campus.

Of the six students who tested positive, five are graduate students in different programs, who live in off-campus in different locations. All six students who tested positive are now in isolation.

Tests administered to student-athletes are included in the surveillance category.

1,423 tests were administered to faculty/staff; 1,284 surveillance tests yielded no positive results, and 139 tests to symptomatic or contact traced individuals had two positive results and those individuals are isolating at home. Both of the faculty/staff members who tested positive have been working remotely and have not been on campus. One staff/faculty member who had been in isolation was cleared to return to normal activities.

Duke has administered 57,916 tests to students, faculty, and staff since August 2 and has recorded 75 positive results; 63 of those individuals have been cleared to return to normal activity.

Students cleared to return to activities during this period:

Contact tracing and precautionary quarantine for students during this period:

104 students were placed in precautionary quarantine because they were found to have been potentially exposed to an individual who tested positive; these students are being monitored by Duke Student Health and continuing their coursework remotely. The vast majority of students in quarantine and isolation reside off-campus.

Students who live in Duke-provided housing will be quarantined in campus facilities. Students who live off-campus must quarantine in their residence.
Faculty & staff testing results from this period:
