With all of the uncertainty surrounding the 2020 NFL season, the New York Giants will allow their season ticket holders to skip the season if they desire.
The Giants sent out an email to season ticket holders on Monday, according to a Twitter post by prominent fan Joe Ruback, better known as "License Plate Guy."
According to the post, season ticket holders can skip the season and return in 2021 without losing their PSL (personal seat license) or the status of their tickets.
It seems to be a fan-friendly policy.
"If you decide to (take a year off from buying tickets), you will have no obligation to pay for your season tickets this year — we will take them back into our inventory and we will see you in 2021," the team said in an email to season ticket holders, according to the New York Daily News. "Giants Stadium LLC has confirmed that your PSL agreement will remain in effect and you will resume season ticket purchases in 2021."
In the email, the team said fans who decide to pass on their season tickets this year can receive a refund. They can also choose to apply their payment from this year to their 2021 season tickets.
Last week, the New England Patriots announced they would allow fans with an increased risk of COVID-19 infection the opportunity to skip the 2020 season while holding onto their seats for the future.
In May, the NFL came out with a uniform ticket refund policy that said fans will be refunded for canceled games or games that must be played without fans. In that scenario, fans could also apply the amount paid to tickets for a future game.
Still, it remained to be seen what individual teams might do during these unprecedented times. Some fans are struggling financially during this pandemic, while others might feel unsafe going to sporting events this year.
Not only will the Giants allow fans to take a season off, but those who choose to do so will not be penalized with losing their seats.
"We continue to work closely with the NFL, state government and medical agencies on the many changes that current events have brought us," the Giants said in the aforementioned email. "Please know that the safety and health of our fans, players and staff continues to be our priority. We understand that this is a challenging time for everyone, but we will get through it together and we appreciate your continued support."
