A call center to get people their negative test results is in the works - Burlington Free Press

Tired of waiting for a letter in the mail with your coronavirus test results? The state is working to set up a call center to contact Vermonters who have tested negative for the virus, according to statements by Commissioner of Health Mark Levine at a press conference Friday.

Currently, those who get tested in Vermont will get a call within a few days — and often within 24 or 48 hours — if their results are positive. But those who test negative must wait for a letter in the mail to officially receive results, which can take up to a week.

The delay prevents those who are in isolation after testing from ending their quarantine in a timely manner.

"There are so many negative results that come in on a given day — because we're doing well over 1,000 tests a day, and the majority of them are negative, thank goodness — that we need to expand an entire bank of people to call results in a more rapid fashion," Levine said.

Levine said that the call center would be comprised of employees who are not otherwise focused on contact tracing. He did not provide a timeline for the development of that call bank, but did say that a testing task force has been "working very constructively."
