AURORA | A shootout over a driving dispute Wednesday in a southeast Aurora neighborhood between a teenager and former Greenwood Village police officer resulted in both being shot and the 17-year-old boy being killed, police said.

Police were called to the 4900 block of South Addison Way at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday after reports of shots being fired between a teenager and an adult.

“Officers located two males, both suffering from a gunshot wound,” Aurora Police Agent Matthew Longshore said in a statement Thursday afternoon.

Witnesses said the man, 36, was arguing with a group of teenagers about accusations of careless driving in the neighborhood, police said.

“At some point during the argument, both the adult and teenager produced firearms, and both fired shots at one another,” Longhsore said.

Both the boy and the man were rushed to hospitals. The boy died shortly after. The man is expected to survive, police said.

The identity of neither the boy nor the man were released.

“Detectives are actively working to determine who the primary aggressor is and the circumstances leading up to the shot being fired,” Longshore said. No arrests have been made.
