We’re about to find out which teams earn automatic bids to the upcoming 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 20, at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Florida. Remember that you can watch the action without interruption LIVE on ESPNU beginning at 10 am ET.

Women’s 6k Championship

Automatic Qualifying Teams: Notre Dame, Wisconsin

No. 25 Notre Dame pulled off the upset to capture its first regional title since 2009. The Fighting Irish, who scored 45 points, swept the top-2 spots as Maddy Denner (19:55.8) and Olivia Markezich (19:57.7) finished first and second, respectively, followed by the rest of their scoring athletes in spots Nos. 10-13-30. No. 13 Wisconsin totaled 69 points to earn the second automatic qualifying spot with all scoring runners in the top-18, including a seventh-place run by Alissa Niggemann. No. 12 Michigan (81), No. 16 Michigan State (87) and RV Butler (119) rounded out the top-5.

Addie Engel of Ohio State finished third behind Denner and Markezich in 19:56.6. The Michigan State duo of Jenn Magness (19:59.7) and Lynsie Gram (20:07.4) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Men’s 10k Championship

Automatic Qualifying Teams: Notre Dame, Wisconsin

No. 6 Notre Dame captured its first regional crown since 2001 and did so in dominating fashion with 37 points. The Fighting Irish placed all five scoring runners in the top-11, including top-5 finishes by Matthew Carmody (30:00.5) and Yared Nuguse (30:00.6) in fourth and fifth, respectively. No. 9 Wisconsin came in second with 87 points to also earn an automatic qualifying spot, led by Olin Hacker’s eighth-place finish in 30:02.1. No. 12 Michigan (106), Michigan State (110) and No. 28 Butler (116) rounded out the top-5 teams.

Simon Bedard of Butler won the individual title in 29:50.0. Right behind Bedard was teammate Barry Keane, who earned runner-up honors in 29:51.5. Morgan Beadlecomb of Michigan State placed third in 29:53.2 to finish ahead of Caromdy and Nuguse.

Mid-Atlantic Region

Women’s 6k Championship

Automatic Qualifying Teams: Georgetown, West Virginia

No. 23 Georgetown placed three runners in the top-10 to win its first regional title since 2014, scoring 43 points to outdistance No. 28 West Virginia’s 67, as the Mountaineers earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2014. RV Villanova – who joined Georgetown with three top-10 finishers – was third with 105 points. Princeton (122) and Penn State (159) rounded out the top-5.

West Virginia’s Ceili McCabe won the individual crown in 20:05.7, more than 10 seconds ahead of runner-up Sami Corman of Georgetown (20:16.6), who just edged teammate Maggie Donahue (20:16.7). Lydia Olivere of Villanova (20:25.3) and Sammi Ragenklint of Monmouth (20:28.6) completed the top-5.

Men’s 10k Championship

Automatic Qualifying Teams: Princeton, Georgetown

Holding true to the pre-championship regional ranking, No. 18 Princeton placed its scoring five in the race’s top 11 to earn the crown ahead of No. 29 Georgetown, 40-49. The Tigers, led by Jakob Kintzele and Ed Trippas’ fifth-and-sixth-place finishes, earned its third regional title in four tries while the Hoyas earned the AQ for the second-straight time.

Georgetown freshman Parker Stokes won the regional title in 30:10.5 as the Hoyas had three of the top-7 finishers. Jack Salisbury was fourth, while Shea Weilbaker claimed seventh.

RV Villanova, not far behind in third with 57 points, notably claimed four of the top 14 spots with Haftu Strintzos taking runner-up honors in 30:13.1.

Penn’s Noah Crey took third place (30:17.8) and guaranteed himself an individual automatic qualifying bid.

Midwest Region

Women’s 6k Championship

Automatic Qualifying Teams: Minnesota, Oklahoma State

No. 5 Minnesota left no doubt as to its claim as the top team in the Midwest Region on Friday, as it romped its first team title since 2009 with 45 points. The Golden Gophers, led by a blanket 4-5-6 finish by Bethany Hasz (20:49.7), Abby Kohut-Jackson (20:49.8) and Megan Hasz (20:50.0), put four of their scoring athletes in the top-15. No. 6 Oklahoma State closed strong to capture the second automatic bid to the NCAA Championships with 75 points, as it had three top-10 finishers. No. 13 Iowa State was paced to a third-place finish with 81 points by individual champion Cailie Logue in 20:45.1. Northwestern (169) and Illinois (192) rounded out the top-5.

Outside of those previously mentioned top-5 athletes, Taylor Roe of Oklahoma State took runner-up honors behind Logue in 20:46.3, while Rachel McCardell of Northwestern wasn’t too far behind in third place at 20:49.6. The Cowgirls also saw Molly Born (seventh, 20:50.0) and Gabby Hentemann (eighth, 20:53.8) finish in the top-10.

Men’s 10k Championship

Automatic Qualifying Teams: Oklahoma State, Iowa State

No. 3 Oklahoma State and No. 4 Iowa State treated fans to another duel on Friday. In the end, the Cowboys captured their first regional title since 2016 with a 43-57 victory over the Cyclones. Oklahoma State had four top-10 finishers in the guise of Ryan Smeeton (fifth, 30:24.9), Alex Maier (sixth, 30:25.0), Victor Shitsama (eighth, 30:25.6) and Shea Foster (ninth, 30:26.4). Iowa State had all five of its runners in the top-15, including the ultimate low stick from Wesley Kiptoo, who won by nearly four seconds in 30:17.8. No. 10 Tulsa finished third with 65 points, while No. 23 Minnesota (120) and Illinois (210) rounded out the top-5.

Kiptoo led by nearly 11 seconds at the 8.75k split, but eventual runner-up Jonathan Davis of Illinois almost reeled him in. Davis ended up second in 30:21.7, less than four seconds back. Scott Beattie of Tulsa finished third in 30:23.15, while Adam Fogg of Drake assured himself a spot on the start line at the NCAA Championships with a fourth-place finish in 30:24.4.

Mountain Region

Women’s 6k Championship

Automatic Qualifying Teams: New Mexico, Colorado

The form chart held true, as No. 2 New Mexico and No. 3 Colorado earned automatic bids to the NCAA Championships out of a stacked Mountain Region. The Lobos won their first regional title since 2018 with 62 points, as they were the only team with all five runners in the top-25. Then it was the Buffs with three top-15 finishers in second place with 83 points. No. 4 BYU, with a pair of top-10 finishers, took third place with 107 points, followed by No. 19 Colorado State (116) and No. 7 Utah (146) to round out the top-5.

Taryn O’Neill of Northern Arizona captured the individual title in 20:17.9 to help her 18^th-ranked squad to a sixth-place finish. Tierney Wolfgram of Nevada took runner-up honors in 20:20.4 and assured herself a spot on the starting line at the NCAA Championships. Abby Nichols of Colorado finished third in 20:22.5, followed by Gracelyn Larkin of New Mexico in fourth (20:22.6) and Alison Pray of Southern Utah in fifth (20:24.4).

Men’s 10k Championship

Automatic Qualifying Teams: BYU, Northern Arizona

No. 8 BYU, behind yet another individual title from Conner Mantz, captured its first regional crown since 2011. Mantz led a 1-3-8-9-21 finish for the Cougars, who totaled 42 points. No. 1 Northern Arizona put four runners in the top-15, including three in the top-10, but couldn’t overcome BYU’s depth and extend its winning streak to five regional meets. The Lumberjacks finished with 57 points, 26 fewer than No. 2 Colorado in third place with 83. No. 11 Air Force took fourth place with 130 points, while No. 26 Southern Utah took fifth with 152 points.

Mantz and Nico Young of NAU went stride for stride over most of the 10k tract in Provo, Utah, before the reigning NCAA individual champion pulled away to win by 1.2 seconds. Young took runner-up honors in 29:40.8, more than two seconds ahead of Mantz’s teammate Casey Clinger in third at 29:42.9. Christian Allen of Weber State secured an individual bid to the upcoming NCAA Championships with a fourth-place finish, while Eduardo Herrera led the Buffaloes in fifth place at 29:46.5.

Northeast Region

Women’s 6k Championship

Automatic Qualifying Teams: RV Harvard, No. 19 Syracuse

RV Harvard and No. 17 Syracuse went through the 3k split and the finish line in the same order at Franklin Park on Friday. The Crimson and Orange finished 1-2 and earned automatic bids to the upcoming NCAA Championships. Harvard turned in a strong team effort for its second regional title in a row. The Crimson put all five scoring athletes in the top-20 and finished with 71 points. Syracuse, led by individual champion Amanda Vestri in 20:05, had three runners in the top-20 and ended up with 81 points. No. 24 Providence (108), RV UConn (143) and Yale (160) rounded out the top-5 teams.

Vestri won the individual title by more than 20 seconds over Kayley Delay of Yale, who finished runner-up in 20:28. Emily Mackay of Binghamton finished third in 20:36, while Maria Coffin of Providence (20:39) and Isabell Sagar of Harvard (20:41) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Men’s 10k Championship

Automatic Qualifying Teams: Syracuse, Harvard

No. 23 Syracuse returned to the top of the podium and won the team crown with 51 points as No. 26 Harvard earned the other automatic berth with 68 points. Both squads had three top-10 runners. The Orange had won the region title six consecutive years before the Crimson claimed it in 2019. Finishing third was Iona (77), followed by Princeton (98) and Columbia (137).

Ehab El-Sandali of Iona won the individual title in 30:02 over Graham Banks of Harvard (30:05). Adian Tooker of Syracuse (30:15) and Harvard’s duo of Matthew Pereira (30:19) and Acer Iverson (30:20) completed the top-5.

South Region

Women’s 6k Championship

Automatic Qualifying Teams: Ole Miss, Florida State

No. 15 Ole Miss won the team title for the first time since 2017, as the Rebels’ 69 points held off co-No. 9 Florida State (86) and No. 11 Alabama (99) in a bit of an upset. Ole Miss placed all five scorers in the top-20, while FSU and the Crimson Tide each had three (Alabama’s trio was all in the top-10, going 1-6-7 with Mercy Chelangat, Flomena Asekol and Esther Gitahi in that order). It’s the third-straight AQ berth for the Seminoles after winning in 2018 and 2019. RV Tennessee (121) and Florida (135) rounded out the top-5.

Chelangat, the reigning NCAA individual champion, strode to a victory by six seconds in 19:34.74 over Florida’s Parker Valby (19:41.38), with Tennessee’s Sydney Seymour (19:46.52), Auburn’s Joyce Kimeli (19:49.54) and Sintayehu Vissa of Ole Miss (19:54.65) completing the top-5 individuals.

Men’s 10k Championship

Automatic Qualifying Teams: Ole Miss, Alabama

Led by a tight first four, No. 19 Ole Miss won a third-straight regional title, scoring 68 points as RV Alabama went 3-4-5 and claimed the second AQ spot with 79 points. The Rebels have earned an automatic bid every year since 2014, but this is the first for the Crimson Tide since at least 2009. Ole Miss’s top runner, Dereck Elkins, was just 11th, but he was immediately followed by Rebels in places 12-13-14 within 0.32 seconds. No. 23 Florida State was third with 112 points, aided by an individual 1-2 from Adriaan Wildschutt (29:07.1) and Ahmed Muhumed (29:20.5). Lipscomb (130) and North Florida (143) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. It was the Bisons’ best finish at the regional in program history.

An Alabama trio of runners finished behind Wildschutt and Muhumed, as Victor Kiprop (29:21.80), Eliud Kipsang (29:28.09) and Hillary Cheruiyot (29:29.35) were third, fourth and fifth place, respectively.

South Central Region

Women’s 6k Championship

Automatic Qualifying Teams: Arkansas, Rice

No. 8 Arkansas claimed its 11th-straight regional title, scoring 27 points with its five scorers finishing in the top-10. The Razorback squad of Isabel Van Camp (2nd), Lauren Gregory (3rd), Logan Jolly (5th), Gracie Hyde (8th), and Meghan Underwood (9th) was able to pull a team average of 20:44 over 6k at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco, Texas.

Led by region champion Grace Forbes (19:59.3), Rice placed runner-up with 96 points to earn its first national-championship automatic-qualifying bid since 2008. Rice was five points clear of third-place RV Texas. Forbes was the race’s winner by more than 16 seconds and 52 seconds ahead of the rest of the pack.

Abilene Christian’s Irene Rono, who finished fourth overall, along with LSU’s Katy-Ann McDonald (6th place), will be among the automatic individual qualifiers from the race.

Men’s 10k Championship

Automatic Qualifying Teams: Texas, Arkansas

Haftu Knight (30:10.4) led No. 14 Texas to the regional title over South Central rival No. 7 Arkansas, 35-39. Texas topped the podium for the second meet in a row as the Longhorns and Razorbacks have finished first-or-second in the event in each of the last eight contests.

Texas had four of the race’s top-10 finishers with Rodger Rivera at third, Yaseen Abdalla at fourth, and Cruz Gomez taking ninth. Arkansas was led by Amon Kemboi, Emmanuel Cheboson, and Gilbert Boit who took fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively.

At the 9k split, the Razorback trio was sitting 2-3-4 and they had a 30-46 lead, as a team, before a late charge from the Longhorns spoiled the form chart.

Texas State’s Kwanele Mthembu was the runner-up, finishing less-than-a-second behind Knight. Arkansas State’s Lexington Hilton (8th), Southeastern Louisiana’s Bradley Makuvire (11th), and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Dennis Kipngeno (13th) are guaranteed automatic individual selection for the NCAA Championships.

Southeast Region

Women’s 6k Championship

Automatic Qualifying Teams: NC State, North Carolina

No. 1 NC State led the team race from the start and romped to its fourth-straight regional title with 34 points. The Wolfpack placed all five scoring runners in the top-17, including four among the top-8, led by the 1-2 punch of Kelsey Chmiel (19:58.4) and Katelyn Touhy (20:06.2). Co-No. 9 North Carolina captured runner-up honors with 73 points and snagged the second automatic qualifying spot. The Tarheels were highlighted by some tight pack running, as their scoring-five came across the line in Nos. 10-13-15-16-19. No. 30 Kentucky (103), Furman (126) and No. 27 Liberty (160) finished in third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Tori Herman of Kentucky finished third behind Chimel and Touhy in 20:09.4, followed by Calli Doan of Liberty (20:11.8) in fourth and Bethany Graham of Furman (20:13.5) in fifth.

Men’s 10k Championship

Automatic Qualifying Teams: Wake Forest, Furman

RV Wake Forest led from the gun and never let up, capturing the regional title with 47 points. The Demon Deacons, led by Aaron Las Heras (29:17.9) and Zach Facioni (29:21.3) in second and fourth place, respectively, distanced themselves from runner-up No. 17 Furman over the final 2k of the race. The Paladins packed up well and sent four runners across the finish line from places Nos. 8-14 (8-9-12-14). RV North Carolina (99), RV NC State (138) and Charlotte (164) rounded out the top-5 teams.

Athanas Kioko of Campbell took top individual honors in 28:58.1, nearly 20 seconds ahead of runner-up Las Heras. Fearghal Curtin of Charleston Southern finished third in 29:19.0, more than three seconds ahead of Facioni in fourth. Parker Wolfe of North Carolina finished fifth in 29:23.4.

West Region

Women’s 6k Championship

Automatic Qualifying Teams: Stanford, Washington

An exciting competition didn’t disappoint with four teams ranked between No. 20 and 29 leading the contenders. No. 26 Stanford was dominant with four runners in the top-10 and repeated as regional champions, scoring 42 points. The second automatic berth to the NCAA Championships went to No. 21 Washington with 84 points, as No. 20 Oregon was third with 100 points. No. 29 Gonzaga (148) and RV Portland (161) rounded out the top-5.

The individual race was thrilling with Stanford’s Julia Heymach (20:01.1) edging Ruby Smee of San Francisco (20:01.6) by 0.5 seconds for the title. Third place went to Kristen Garcia of Gonzaga (20:03.2), followed by Alessia Zarbo of Oregon (20:04.0) and Portland State’s Katie Camarena (20:06.6).

Men’s 10k Championship

Automatic Qualifying Teams: Stanford, Washington

No. 5 Stanford and No. 13 Washington waged quite the war, with the Cardinal edging the Huskies by five points, 61-66, as the pair claimed both automatic berths in a deep field. UW put three runners in the top-10 to Stanford’s two, but the Cardinal’s fourth and fifth runners finished ahead of the Huskies’ No. 4 to tilt the title in Stanford’s way. No. 30 Portland (94) led a closely bunched group for third, with No. 16 Oregon (100), No. 15 Gonzaga (107) and No. 20 Boise State (115) not far behind.

Kieran Lumb of Washington won a competitive individual race in 29:28.5, just ahead of Stanford’s Charles Hicks (29:29.5) and Oregon’s Cooper Teare (29:29.7). Aaron Bienenfeld of Oregon (29:33.3) and Gonzaga’s James Mwaura (29:35.2) completed the top-5.
