Wednesday 09/01/21 Powerball jackpot had a jackpot of $345 million but there was no grand prize winner and no-one had a ticket that matched all five white balls, minus the red Powerball, for the game's second-prize of $1 million.
The last grand prize winner was on Saturday 06/05/21 and that lucky player scooped a jackpot of $286 million. The winning ticket was sold in Jacksonville, Florida, at a Circle K convenience store.
Powerball is a multi-state lottery that's usually played every Wednesday and Saturday. It's one of the nation's two biggest lottery jackpot games, along with Mega Millions. Powerball jackpots start at $20 million, while there are prizes paying between $1 million to $2 million with a Power Play. Powerball tickets cost $2. You can check the winning numbers, including any past results, on the official Powerball website.
Powerball offers nine different ways to win. If you match the Powerball and no other numbers, you win a prize of $4. You can win more if you purchase the power play for an extra $1. Matching one ball plus the Powerball will win you the same prize, while matching two numbers and the Powerball is worth $7. Three correct numbers without the Powerball will also pay out $7.
If a player matches all five white balls minus the Powerball, the prize is $1 million and this can be multiplied if power play was purchased. Matching all five white balls plus the red Powerball is required to win the jackpot.
The other multi-state lottery is Mega Millions. That's played on Tuesdays and Fridays. Like Powerball, the jackpot is reset at $20 million after a grand prize is won. One line of numbers is $2, with a $1 option to potentially multiply their winnings with a Megaplier. Here is the Mega Millions website for more information and to check past results.
