When Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas, a Republican, relaxed COVID restrictions two months ago, President Joe Biden, a Democrat, snidely referred to it as “Neanderthal thinking.” Last Sunday, Texas recorded its first day ever with zero fatalities in a single day. The state also reported the lowest seven-day positivity rate ever and the lowest recorded number of COVID-19 hospitalizations in the past 11 months. Thank God for Neanderthal thinking.
