Each year, America's most solemn of holidays is commemorated with two of the most revered races in American motorsports. In the afternoon, IndyCar takes center stage with the running of the fabled Indianapolis 500. And then, come evening, it's NASCAR's turn.
Race 15 of the NASCAR Cup Series season is the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the longest race in NASCAR and one of the Cup Series' crown jewel races. To be a champion of this race, one needs to not only stay on top of changing track conditions from day into night, but also prove physically and mentally prepared to handle what amounts to stock car racing's equivalent of an endurance race.
Fresh off of his first win of the season at Circuit of the Americas, Chase Elliott enters the Coke 600 as the latest winner in a season that has seen 11 different drivers visit Victory Lane. And Elliott is sure to be among the favorites on Sunday: Last year, Elliott had his first Coca-Cola 600 win well in hand before a blown pit call on a late-race caution cost him the race, which went to Brad Keselowski instead. Keselowski will look to defend his 600 title from other first-time hopefuls, as well as past winners like Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Busch, and Austin Dillon.
The Coca-Cola 600 is set to go green at 6 p.m. ET with coverage on Fox.
