Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel thrilled with second-half improvement and lauds "unique" Kante
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel lamented a "sloppy" first-half display from his side against Tottenham today. "We were not sharp enough in the first 45 minutes," he told BBC Match of the Day. But he was delighted with the improvement after the restart, owed in no small part to the introduction of midfielder N'Golo Kante from the bench.
"We relied too much on skills [in the first half]," Tuchel continued, "but its not just about skilful play - we also have to impress with work rate and intensity and we had to step up to earn a better result. And that is what we did, we played a better second half."
On Kante's performance, Tuchel reflected: "He played a huge part. N'Golo is N'Golo, he's unique, one of a kind and having him on the pitch makes such a huge difference to everything."

Spurs boss "disappointed" following second-half collapse
Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo rued his side's failure to take their early chances after today's 3-0 defeat against Chelsea. "It was a game of two halves," he told Sky Sports. "I think in the first half we competed very well, were the better team and controlled things."
He added: "For 50 minutes we held on before the first goal but after that the game changed. It was very hard for us. Chelsea are a good team and created us many problems. I don't know if we surprised them but we needed to start the match really strong and we did that. We did good pressing, recovering the ball and creating good situations. The plan was to score. There were chances to do it, we didn't do it. The first half was fantastic."
