UPDATE: Tonight’s Powerball drawing has been delayed due to a technical error. The drawing is still expected to take place, but it is unknown when the results will be posted.
The first Monday Powerball lottery drawing will be held this evening and offer a jackpot of $293 million with a cash option of $214.2 million.
The drawing will be held at 10:59 p.m. and televised on WABC-7 in the New York City area and Fox 29 in the Philadelphia area.
The new Monday drawing also comes with an additional twist — a second chance “Double Play” drawing for an extra $1 that will be held immediately after the regular drawing and have a $10 million jackpot.
The Double Play drawing will also be held after the Wednesday and Saturday night drawings. Powerball players don’t have to take part in the add-on game, but Double Play tickets can’t be bought separately.
Players will have the same set of numbers in both the main Powerball drawing and Double Play drawing. Powerball tickets that include the Double Play add-on will be eligible to win prizes in both drawings.
New Jersey, Pennsylvania, 10 other states and Puerto Rico are participating in Double Play, officials said.
No one across the country hit Saturday’s $286.9 million drawing but a pair of second-prize, $1 million tickets were sold — one in Ohio and one in West Virginia. Each matched five numbers but not the Powerball.
Saturday’s winning numbers were: 16, 28, 26, 39 and 59. The Powerball drawn was 4 with a Power Play of 2X.
A pair of $50,000 tickets were sold in New Jersey, each matching four numbers plus the Powerball. One was sold at Scotland Arms Liquors on Scotland Road in Orange, the other at Carousel Convenience Store on Harrison Avenue in West Orange, New Jersey Lottery officials said.
The odds of hitting the Powerball jackpot are 292,201,388 to 1. A player who buys a $2 ticket has about a 1 in 11,688,053 chance to match five numbers and win at least $1 million, while the odds are 913,129 to 1 of winning the third prize of at least $50,000.
The New Jersey Lottery office in Lawrence is open by appointment only. You can still claim your winnings — provided they’re less than $599.50 — in person at any lottery retailer.
The lottery is also accepting mailed claims, though officials warn payments might be temporarily delayed. Winners are advised to make copies of the claim form and the winning ticket for their records.
