A new $10 million roller coaster observation deck in Japan will allow non-riders to enjoy views of Mt. Fuji without having to actually ride the attraction.
As reported by Blooloop, the Fujiyama Tower will offer several different experiences that offer views of Mt. Fuji that were previously only seen by riders on the roller coaster. The new attraction is set to be completed in summer 2021; during construction, Fujiyama – King of Coasters will be closed. The entire project is expected to cost 1.07 billion yen ($10.35 million).
Guests will travel to the top of the tower by way of an internal elevator. The Fujiyama Sky Deck Observatory will host a wedge-shaped deck that offers a perfect view of Mt. Fuji.
Fujiyama Walk is an open-to-the-elements winding track that was previously used by staff to perform inspections of the tracks. There are no handrails and, although visitors are attached to harnesses for safety, it offers a thrilling hike for those brave enough to try.
The Fujiyama Slider wraps around the elevator shaft at the tower’s center, and is a tubular slide that will send riders speeding to the ground in mere seconds.

Initially, the inspection tower was designed to be purely practical – allowing staff to carry out daily inspections and repairs without having to use narrow trackways. An elevator inside the tower would carry replacement parts and equipment. The staff often enjoyed the views of Mt. Fuji, and the idea came about to open the experience up to the public.
The observation deck offers visitors a great alternative for those who might be too afraid to ride the roller coaster, but still want to catch a glimpse of those magnificent views.
