The Colorado High School Activities Association is making one last push to allow for fan attendance at its state championship football games this week.
The championship finalists from all classes, from 6-man to 5A, will converge on the ThunderBowl at CSU-Pueblo this week. CHSAA and local health authorities had initially approved fan attendance for up to 1,400 people per game with strict health and social distancing measures enforced. But the widespread transmission of COVID-19 last week in Pueblo County led the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to prohibit fans from the event.
Late Monday, CHSAA announced it has asked the governor’s office to reconsider a second variance to allow for football fans at championship weekend. The new proposal asks for two guests per player and one guest per registered coach, assistant CHSAA commissioner Bert Borgmann told The Denver Post.
CHSAA is hosting a video news conference Tuesday afternoon with championship game coaches when more information is expected to be available on the status of their attendance request.
