UFC 251 on Fight Island: Usman vs. Masvidal results, live updates, highlights from full card - DAZN News US

After spending a month at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, the UFC has relocated to Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where it is holding UFC 251 and a trio of title fights Saturday night..

The event kicks off a month of "Fight Island" cards at the Flash Forum in Abu Dhabi featuring international fighters during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Saturday's stacked card is headlined by UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman making his second title defense against rival Jorge Masvidal.

Usman is coming off a 2019 campaign that saw him end Tyron Woodley's title reign in dominant fashion at UFC 235 and stop Colby Covington via fifth-round TKO at UFC 245.

Masvidal is stepping in on short notice to replace Gilbert Burns, who tested positive for COVID-19 a week before the fight. This switch comes after Masvidal and the UFC engaged in a standoff regarding fighter pay and the MMA promotion decided to go with Burns as Usman's opponent on "Fight Island" instead. With the UFC in a bind after Burns' positive coronavirus test, Masvidal reentered the picture and the two sides quickly came to an agreement.

This is the fight everyone wanted. Usman and Masvidal have been embroiled in a heated feud since January when the two were involved in a shouting match on media row during Super Bowl week in Miami. Now they will get to settle their differences as the welterweight champion faces the "BMF" titleholder.

In the co-main event, Alexander Volkanovski will look to prove that his upending of Max Holloway for the UFC featherweight championship in December was no fluke. He'll be taking on arguably the greatest 145-pounder the UFC has ever seen again in a rematch. Volkanovski has yet to taste defeat in the UFC and will be seeking his ninth consecutive victory. Holloway enters the fight losing two of his past three bouts after winning 13 straight from 2014-19. Can Holloway get revenge and regain the title, or is Volkanovski the true king of the featherweight division?

Petr Yan and former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo will battle for the vacant UFC bantamweight championship that Henry Cejudo relinquished when he retired in May. Yan is undefeated during his UFC tenure but will have to get past an all-time great who will look to win a world title in a second weight class.

Aside from the title fights, UFC 251 will also feature a rematch between former women's strawweight champions. Rose Namajunas will look to get revenge against Jessica Andrade, the woman who took the title from her. Paige VanZant will compete in what she has called the most important fight of her career when she faces Amanda Ribas in the final fight on her UFC contract.

Here is everything you need to know about UFC 251, including the time, odds, full fight card info and how to watch the event.

All times EST.

UFC 251 results, highlights

9:00 p.m.: Makwan Amirkhani deserves a bonus for moving this card along as he put Danny Henry to sleep in the first round with an anaconda choke. Thank goodness because it's a race against the clock. One hour before the PPV and two fights to go.

8:48 p.m.: Well, things just got worse. Leonardo Santos and Roman Bogatov engaged in one of the most bizarre fights you will ever see. Santos nearly finished Bogatov in the second round with roughly 10 unanswered strikes. However, referee Marc Goddard allowed the fight to continue until Santos exhausted himself. From there, we had multiple fouls and low blows that stopped the action and caused a 15-minute fight to last nearly a half an hour. Santos won but we all lost watching that one.

8:16 p.m.: After we got started with a bang, the next three fights were more of a fizzle with a trio of decisions. The lowlight was Marcin Tybura's drab decision over Maxim Grishim. Hopefully, things pick up as the UFC 251 prelims get started with Leonardo Santos vs. Roman Bogatov in lightweight action.

6:45 p.m.What a way to kick off "Fight Island!" Davey Grant and Martin Day were having themselves an entertaining scrap until Grant turned the lights out with a brutal left hook that put Day to sleep upon contact in the third round.
