Who is your long-time pal who you only have wonderful things to say about? For pop star Selena Gomez, it’s her equally famous BFF, Taylor Swift. Here are some of the touching posts she’s written about the Lover artist, including the most recent message she shared on social media.
Aug. 2015: ‘1989 Tour’
Let’s first take it back a few years. Swift and Gomez were very close back in the 1989 era. These were the days when Swift’s “Girl Squad” was in full swing, and Gomez was a charter member of the crew. Which is what makes this moment all the more special.
Swift loves having surprise guests join her on stage at her concerts. Back in August 2015, Gomez took the stage to perform with Swift at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. They sang “Good For You,” and Gomez shared photos after, mentioning their almost eight years of friendship. “I love you Tay,” she wrote.
Dec. 2015: Swift’s birthday
A few months later, Gomez shared a composite of two images of the BFFs, in honor of Swift’s 26th birthday. The bottom photo is from their then-recent performance together, while the top one is a very old throwback from their early days at friends, and has become nearly iconic over the years.
Gomez simply wrote, “I don’t know life without you Taylor. Happy birthday!” Their long-lasting friendship is certainly something to behold.
Feb. 2016: The Grammy Awards
In Feb. 2016, Swift attended the Grammy Awards with a brand new short bob hair cut. The artist had scored nine nominations that year, and brought home three awards: Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album of the Year for 1989, and Best Music Video for “Bad Blood” — which Gomez co-starred in.
Gomez then posted a photo of herself from the back, with the focus on her friend, smiling at her. She wrote, “this is what was shining most – so proud of Tay.” What a supportive woman!
Dec. 2017: Another birthday
Yes, Swift has had a birthday every year, and on many of those, Gomez has supported her. But we have to specifically pick out this post because it’s one of the most touching ever between the two.
“I’m glad you were born,” captioned Gomez on a little snipped of the two of them laughing. “You write all the thoughts some aren’t able to articulate. (ME!” Thank you for giving a voice to this world that is authentic and inspiring. I wish some knew how big your heart actually is.. it’s fierce, bold and freaking wild with light. I’m glad you protect that. Love you.”
May 2018: ‘Reputation Tour’
Both Gomez and Swift have been very busy of the last years, with their own health (Gomez), their family’s health (Swift’s mother), and a few rocky and not-so rocky relationships between them. But they always seem to find time for one another.
Gomez joined Swift once again on stage, years after first doing so. During Swift’s Reputation Tour in May 2018, Gomez performed “Hands to Myself” with Swift in Pasadena. After they sang, Gomez thanked her good friend or so many years, in a very touching moment.
Oct. 2019: Instagram Story
Now, while promoting her own new music, Gomez has once again written something sweet about Swift. When “Lose You to Love Me” came out, Swift wrote on her Instagram Story, “This song is a perfect expression of healing & my absolute favorite song she’s put out yet. A triumph.”
Gomez has returned the kind words in her own Instagram Story. Alongside a photo of Gomez, Swift, and Swift’s cat, Benjamin Button, she wrote, “My ride or die… I would die for this one.” Gomez continued, “Thank you for forever being by my side. You have taught me so much, walked through all of this with me, STAYED and you remind me to be a better, human being. I’m on your side for life.” It doesn’t get much more real than that.
