With the WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view on Sunday, this go-home edition of Monday Night Raw largely focused on building to the upcoming event. That included a main event gauntlet match featuring the six men who will battle it out inside the Chamber with the WWE championship on the line. The winner of the match would secure the enviable position of being the final entrant into the match, making them the odds-on favorite to take home the title.

Sheamus would emerge victorious to end the night, being the final man to enter the gauntlet match and pinning champion Drew McIntyre to send a final message ahead of the PPV. That wasn't the only big Elimination Chamber news, however, with The Miz removing himself from the match and leaving an open spot which was filled by Kofi Kingston.

CBS Sports was with you all night bringing you recaps and highlights of all the night's action.

Major changes to the Elimination Chamber

The Miz hosted Drew McIntyre on an episode of Miz TV to open the show. After the typical line of Miz trash talk -- and John Morrison absent -- McIntyre issued several warnings for Miz to stop talking. When Miz did not do so, McIntyre delivered a headbutt and stormed off. Miz grabbed the microphone to claim that the pressure of the Elimination Chamber was already causing McIntyre to crack and ranted that he has no pressure because he still has the Money in the Bank briefcase and a shot at the title whenever he so chooses before removing himself from the Elimination Chamber match.

Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match -- Kofi Kingston def. The Miz via pinfall with Trouble in Paradise. Miz would later pitch to Adam Pearce that John Morrison should take his place, which Pearce said he would take under advisement. As Kofi Kingston made his own pitch for inclusion as a former champion, Miz interrupted. This led to a match between Miz and Kingston, with the winner getting their wish for the Chamber. Kingston won after countering the Skull-Crushing Finale and hitting Trouble in Paradise.

Sheamus won a gauntlet match including AJ Styles, Kofi Kingston, Drew McIntyre, Jeff Hardy and Randy Orton to become the final entrant into the Elimination Chamber. Styles scored the first pin of the match, taking out Kingston in a match that saw Omos ejected from ringside after chokeslamming Xavier Woods on the outside of the ring. McIntyre was the next man out, eliminating Styles with a Claymore. Hardy fell to the Claymore next, but McIntyre was exhausted by the time he scored the pinfall. When Orton was out next, he couldn't take advantage after Alexa Bliss' face replaced all the screens in the ThunderDome. As he was distracted, Orton was counted out and eliminated. This left McIntyre to face Sheamus in the final pairing of the match. Sheamus jumped McIntyre before the start of their portion of the match. With McIntyre beaten down and exhausted, Sheamus was able to hit a Brogue Kick to secure his spot as the final entrant into Sunday's Elimination Chamber match.

It's hard to complain about anything here. The Miz stepping out of the match made sense, and he delivered one of his best promos in recent months in discussing his strategy as the Money in the Bank contract holder. Gauntlet matches are also wonderful ways to kill an hour for those fans who enjoy the in-ring action over WWE's often messy storylines. Kingston is always money in high-risk matches, and he adds a whole new dimension to the match that Miz would not have provided. And Sheamus is the right man to be last man in, representing a looming threat to everyone involved. Grade: B+

What else happened on WWE Raw?

Riddle & Lucha House Party def. Hurt Business via pinfall when Riddle hit MVP with a Floating Bro. After the match, Bobby Lashley attacked the winners and locked Riddle in the Hurt Lock.

24/7 Championship -- Bad Bunny def. Akira Tozawa via pinfall to win the title. Damian Priest threw Tozawa into equipment crates backstage seconds after Tozawa won the title off R-Truth. Priest then told Bunny to score the pin and take the title.

Charlotte Flair & Asuka def. Lacey Evans & Peyton Royce when Evans left the ring. Evans attempted to stay out of the ring with Flair until both women were legal. Evans then refused to get in the ring and, walking off with Ric Flair, announced that she would not wrestle Flair because she is pregnant.

Shayna Baszler def. Lana via submission with the Kirifuda Clutch.

Alexa Bliss interrupted a Randy Orton promo. Bliss cut into the promo from the interior of the Firefly Fun House, sitting in the center of a pentagram. Bliss promised that, while The Fiend had been destroyed by fire, he would soon be resurrected.
