In recent weeks, the numb er of coronavirus cases has declined by more than 50%, according to data from the Tennessee Department of Health.

The mandate, which has been in effect since last fall, required residents to wear masks in all public indoor spaces.

"In light of the significant progress in reduction of COVID cases in recent weeks, and the positive impact on hospital capacity, the Williamson County face covering order will be allowed to expire on February 27, 2021 at 11:59 p.m.," county officials said in an announcement. "However, Mayor Anderson, continues to encourage Williamson Countians voluntarily to wear face coverings when in public places where social distancing is not achievable."

The expiration of the mask mandate does not apply to Williamson County schools, which will continue to require masks, and businesses in the county will still be allowed to require masks if they wish to do so, according to the announcement.
