Trump supporters protest election results from Massachusetts to D.C. - Boston Herald

Supporters of President Trump rallied from Bourne to Washington, D.C., on Saturday as they echoed the president’s baseless claims that Democrats are “trying to steal” the election and called for audits to verify the results.

“Voter fraud is real. It’s like people are trying to avoid saying it is real since it’s Donald Trump that is the one who lost,” Trump supporter Chris Bartley told the Herald via phone as he joined demonstrators at the Bourne Rotary who called to “stop the steal.”

“If it was Joe Biden who lost, it would be different,” Bartley said.

Trump backers remained defiant a week after the Associated Press and major media outlets called the presidential election in favor of Biden. As the former vice president embarked on his transition to become the 46th president, the current commander in chief spent the week firing off allegations of election fraud even as some of his campaign’s legal challenges were dismissed.

Supporters of the president said they want to see election audits — even if the results ultimately don’t turn out in Trump’s favor.

“I voted for Donald Trump. I would be pleased” if Trump remained in office, Hanover resident LoAnn Maynard said.

“But it matters more to me that the ballots were truthful,” she said. “If it really was Joe Biden and that’s what America really wanted, then we’re willing to accept that — but I don’t believe that’s what happened.”

As Trump supporters headed to Bourne from as far away as Londonderry, N.H., on Saturday, dozens of pro- and anti-Trump demonstrators clashed briefly outside the State House in Boston.

And West Roxbury Republican Lou Murray, a former national adviser to Trump’s 2016 campaign, was among the many thousands of supporters who took to the streets of the nation’s capital Saturday for the “Million MAGA March.”

“They are praying, they are chanting, they know that justice will win in the end and they’re quite confident the evil of the vote theft will be exposed,” Murray said of his compatriots during a phone interview with the Herald in which chants of “Trump has won” and “USA” could be heard in the background as the group marched toward the Supreme Court.

Trump thrilled his fans earlier in the day as his motorcade did a slow drive-by through downtown Washington on the way to his Virginia golf club.

“Don’t let the Radical Left Dems STEAL THE ELECTION!” he tweeted in the afternoon, calling the hand recount underway in Georgia “a waste of time” over claims of signature verification issues.
