BayCare hospitals allow limited visitors after five months without - Tampa Bay Times

After nearly five months of no visitation, BayCare Health System hospitals will begin allowing visitors on a limited basis starting Wednesday, the network announced Tuesday.

Patients will be able to have one visitor a day from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., according to a press release. Visitation was initially canceled to curb the spread of the coronavirus. But as fewer patients are in the hospital with the virus and the infection rate goes down, the health network found it possible to allow visitation.

“We know how important connections to loved ones are for our patients' recovery and we are delighted to once again safely provide access for that in-person support,” Glenn Waters, BayCare’s chief operating officer, said in a statement.

BayCare has 15 hospitals across the Tampa Bay area, and the changes will take effect at all of them.

Visitors will need to pass a coronavirus screening and wear a mask throughout their visit, according to BayCare. Those who are visiting a pediatric, neonatal or labor and delivery patient will be allowed beyond the regular hours.

Visitors still will not be allowed for coronavirus patients or for behavioral health patients. Emergency department patients can get a visitor once they are placed in a room, unless they have respiratory symptoms.

Surgery patients will be allowed a visitor before the operation and during recovery. Hospital leadership can approve other situations on a case-by-case basis, according to BayCare.
