Jurassic Express' Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus battled the Lucha Bros' Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero M in the night's opening contest as AEW sought to spotlight its incredible tag team division.

Jungle Boy and Fenix showed off their athleticism early before Penta joined his brother in a double-team takedown of their young opponent. The massive Luchasaurus turned the tide back in the babyfaces' favor, only for Penta to shove Jungle Boy off the top rope and into a superkick by Fenix.

The action never slowed, the two teams cutting a lightning-quick pace even as the heels gained control.

Late, as the action broke down, Jungle Boy scored the pinfall for his team in what the commentary team labeled a big upset win.

After the match, Fenix and Penta bickered and fought until Eddie Kingston interrupted. He reminded Lucha Bros he was there when Pac was not. He asked Blade where his wife was in reference to Allie. He ordered the frustrated brothers to shake hands, to which Penta refused.

More insistence by the mouthpiece of the group and the Lucha Bros reunited before Kingston suggested he was never really eliminated from the Casino Battle Royale.

    Analysis

This was a high-energy match that never gave the audience an opportunity to become disengaged. The action was smooth, the work of all involved was seamless and Jungle Boy scoring such a quality win was a nice touch.

The post-match manipulation by Kingston only helps strengthen his hold over Lucha Bros and The Butcher and The Blade as he looks to root himself in the foundation of AEW's tag team division. His claim about the Casino Battle Royale also hints at his own selfish aspirations, for which he will use any and all around him.

A great way to kick off this show.

Matt Hardy hit the ring to address the fans and applauded the live audience's energy.

He discussed his fall from All Out and the scary moments that ensued as a result. He said he is expecting to make a 100 percent recovery before acknowledging his family. Matt thanked the fans for the concern they showed him and the rest of the roster before pledging to get healed up, get cleared and focus on winning AEW gold.

Hardy applauded the fans, showing them the sort of love and respect they showed him as wife Reby watched from the stands with their infant child.

    Analysis

This was a great, heartfelt address from the future Hall of Famer and a testament to his connection with the audience.

Kudos to him for handling a difficult situation with grace. This could have gone a couple of different ways, and instead it was short, sweet and to the point while setting him up for great things in the (hopefully) near future.

The Hybrid2 made its return to AEW Dynamite this week as Angelico (accompanied by Jack Evans) battled Orange Cassidy, who was fresh off a victory over Chris Jericho in the Mimosa Mayhem match at All Out.

Angelico wore Cassidy down early with an array of submissions learned in Mexico.

Cassidy dodged a corner splash, soared off the top rope with a crossbody and blasted Angelico with the Orange Punch for the win.

After the match, Santana and Ortiz attacked Cassidy until Best Friends' Trent and Chuck Taylor made the save and issued a challenge for a parking lot showdown next week.

    Analysis

    Put Cassidy over? Check.

Set up a match for next week's show? Check.

Escalate the Best Friends-Santana and Ortiz feud? Check.

This accomplished all three without hurting anyone involved. Furthermore, it continued Cassidy's meteoric rise and focused on him as the star rather than the young competitor hoping to feed off Jericho's status.

    Everything about this worked.

Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford dismissed Tony Schiavone from the ring and set out to reveal the Best Man for their wedding. After two false calls with a Twitch subscriber and Brian Pillman Jr., Superbad introduced Miro, the artist formerly known as Rusev to WWE fans.

The former Bulgarian Brute entered to a thunderous ovation from the AEW fans in attendance.

"Elite recognizes elite," he said before telling his former employer to shove the proverbial brass ring up his ass. "My name is Miro, and I'm all elite."

Miro celebrated with Sabian and Ford to close out the segment.

    Analysis

Like a post-PPV episode of Raw or SmackDown, AEW delivered a big surprise with the debut of Miro.

The crowd was red-hot, the performer was energized in a way we have not seen in quite some time and the segment came off as a big deal for both Miro and the company alike.

The one person who will benefit exponentially from the newly formed friendship? Sabian, who can benefit from increased television time and association with the newcomer. Miro still has a star in the industry, and Superbad has the potential to share in that star by way of his partnership.

And rightfully so. The young Brit is far too talented to continue watching from ringside as others do what he should be.

"The Demo God" Chris Jericho and Jake Hager battled the young team of Joey Janela and Sonny Kiss in tag team action this week. Hager sought revenge for his elimination from the Casino Battle Royale at the hands of Kiss, while Janela looked to pay The Inner Circle heels back for the brutal beating he endured a week ago at their hands.

The fired-up babyfaces kept the heels at bay, keeping them guessing with a wholly unpredictable offense. A blind charge into the corner by The Bad Boy led to a side suplex by Jericho as the heels wrested away control of the bout. During the break, Jericho and Hager set up a table, but The Demo God crashed face-first into a chair wedged in the corner.

Jericho tagged Hager into the match while Kiss exploded into the contest with his energetic offense. He downed Hager for a near-fall that Jericho just narrowly broke up. Hager recovered and blindsided Kiss. He set his opponent up for the Hager Bomb, but Kiss caught him with a trash can to the ribs.

A minute later, Jericho catapulted Janela into Hager, who drove him through a table.

Kiss continued to fight but came up just short, succumbing to Hager's onslaught as Inner Circle picked up a much-needed victory.

After the match, Jericho declared that he and Hager were setting their sights on the AEW Tag Team Championships held by FTR.

    Result

Jericho and Hager defeated Kiss and Janela

    Grade

    B

    Analysis

Every single one of Sonny Kiss' performances is a breakout performance. He has been money since that TNT Championship match against Cody earlier in the summer. As the gutsy underdog babyface here, he was fantastic and showed off the flair and in-ring charisma of a star in the making.

Janela continued to show that pitbull mentality, that never-say-die attitude that made him a cult favorite of indie fans. He took a big bump and put over the teamwork of Jericho and Hager in the process, making his contribution key to the story of the match.

Jericho and Hager as top contenders to the tag titles is certainly an interesting booking decision, particularly given the depth of that division. Do we really need another team made up of singles stars at the top of that particular roster?

Jon Moxley discussed his match with MJF at All Out and admitted that things are not getting easier for him in his reign as AEW World champion, nor should they. He cut a promo on Lance Archer ahead of their upcoming championship clash.

FTR celebrated is AEW Tag Team Championship victory in the center of the ring with Tully Blanchard.

Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler cut down the tag team division, including The Gunn Club and Jurassic Express, before revealing they will battle Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus in a non-title match next week.

The heels disrespected their upcoming opponents to close out the show.

    Grade

    A

    Analysis

Moxley and FTR cut two strong promos that set up future matches while simultaneously putting over their own efforts to either win or retain gold.

They were engaging, they showcased their polar-opposite personalities and they established themselves as the tops in their individual divisions.

You cannot ask for much more than that from shorter promos, particularly Moxley's relatively quick pre-tape.

Tay Conti made her first appearance since joining All Elite Wrestling as a contracted talent, battling top contender Nyla Rose in singles competition.

The Native Beast overwhelmed the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, battling her to the arena floor before returning to the ring to continue her domination.

Conti fought her way back into the match, even grabbing hold of an armbar. Just as she looked like she might score an upset victory, Rose powered out and delivered the Beast Bomb for the win.

After the match, Vickie Guerrero cut a promo saying The Vicious Vixens are going nowhere. Rose was going to resume her beating until Hikaru Shida made the save, teasing another showdown with Rose.

    Result

    Rose defeated Conti

    Grade

    C

    Analysis

Most of the match took place during the picture-in-picture commercial break and was a fairly one-sided affair. Rose essentially squashed Conti, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Rose needed to rebuild momentum for herself, especially if she is to be the new No. 1 contender.

Where the AEW creative efforts lacked here was the potential crossover with The Dark Order storyline. We saw Anna Jay, Evil Uno and Stu Grayson approach Conti with an offer to join the group. Wouldn't it have made for a more efficient bit of storytelling for Jay and her cohorts to make the save and Rose to appear unfazed?

That gets The Dark Order element of the story out of the way while making Rose look like a badass.

As it was, this was fine.

With vengeance fueling him, the desire to preserve the honor of his family and brother Cody his purpose, Dustin Rhodes challenged Mr. Brodie Lee in the main event of this week's show. A win and he would become the second Rhodes to hold the TNT Championship.

A loss? Well, a loss would further entrench The Dark Order in a position of power in AEW.

The fight started hot as Rhodes pounded away at his opponent, both in the ring and on the floor. Lee recovered and wrested control of the match away from his challenger, seizing the upper hand through the commercial break.

Dustin fought back and delivered a Cross Rhodes, nearly putting Lee away with Cody's finisher in what would have been poetic justice. Lee survived it and a piledriver before putting the grizzled vet away for the successful title defense.

The Dark Order hit the ring to celebrate, including Colt Cabana, whom The Exalted One banished from the ring.

A cheap low blow followed after the match, and Lee taunted the former TNT champion, looking into the camera and exclaiming, "Come home, Cody."

    Result

    Lee defeated Rhodes

    Grade

    B

    Analysis

This was a physical battle between two big, tenacious badasses who beat the hell out of each other in some oppressive heat in the name of winning.

Lee picked up the victory, but it was not without Dustin getting his own fair share of offense in.

As important to the ongoing story of The Dark Order as anything was Lee dismissing Cabana, confusing him and leaving Evil Uno to explain away his actions. Might it end up biting Lee, who could lose Cabana in the long run?

    Maybe.

Might it strengthen Cabana's connection to the group? Possibly.

That there are questions to answer and intrigue surrounding the group is an enormous improvement over the state Dark Order found itself in at the end of 2019.
