Who knows when fans will be allowed back at Yankee Stadium as the nation works to vaccinate as many as possible against the coronavirus.
But it seems like it’s only a matter of time before they’re cheering at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, MLB is expected to allow teams to permit a limited number of fans at spring training games this year. The capacity likely won’t exceed 25%.
The Yankees’ first home spring training game will be Feb. 27.

Teams have already begun announcing plans for selling tickets. The Red Sox have said they’ll open Jet Blue Park to 24% its capacity. Boston hosts spring training at Jet Blue Park in Ft. Myers, Fla. — about three hours from Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. The Pirates will allow about 2,000 fans per game at their 8,500-seat LECOM Park in Bradenton, which is about an hour from Tampa.
Late Monday, MLB and the players association each put out statements addressing their plans to begin spring training on time after they couldn’t work out a deal to push it back.
Yankees pitchers and catchers report to Tampa on Feb. 15. Their first full-squad workout will be Feb. 22.
