The strength of Eric and Jessica's bond let the pop singer dish about her past relationships in her new book.

In the pages, she reveals the last time she shared a bed with ex Nick Lachey - something she says happened after he had already moved on to now-wife Vanessa.

According to Jessica, the encounter occurred right before their divorce was finalized in 2006.

It was a tough time for Jessica, who had just watched an MTV documentary about the making of Nick's solo album What's Left Of Me, a project which detailed the couple's split.

Intensifying her angst, she following that screening up with an episode of Making The Video that featured Nick with his future wife Vanessa Minnillo.

Jessica reached out to her ex in an attempt to figure out what he 'thought' about her.

'I just wanted to know what he thought of me now, because at that point I had no idea,' Simpson wrote.

She was also hurt by the way Nick had portrayed himself as the 'victim' in the relationship.

'I watched him portray himself as a victim, casting me as this selfish person... I knew he did this to hurt me.'

Though she was hunt and angry, Jessica said she felt a certain responsibility to 'fix him' because she felt responsible for his 'breakdown.'

'So I called him,' she wrote. 'And I asked to meet him at my house … He rang the bell, and out of reflex I hugged him. I meant it, too. Despite my anger, I missed him.'

They spent some time listening to his new album, which was filled with songs about Jessica.

Instead of finding herself overwhelmed with emotion, Simpson said it made her feel 'numb.'

'I was numb, just blank,' she wrote. 'How do you react when you find out you have apparently hurt someone so deeply that they feel entitled to such actions? I felt manipulated into some revenge fantasy, but I had put myself in this situation.

Young and naive, she admitted: 'I didn’t know any other way to make it better, so I slept with him.'

No thanks: Nick revealed he hasn't read the book when asked about it on Monday's episode of the Today show, he said he's 'happy' for Jessica. He's seen with wife Vanessa above

Their hookup was the final sign that the relationship was really over.

'He didn’t stay the night. I was relieved because I could feel his hate. The whole situation was very dark,' she wrote. 'When he walked out the door, I knew I would never see him again.'

In the book she also reveals how she shared an ''emotional affair' with Dukes Of Hazard co-star Johnny Knoxville, during the time she and Lachey were married

'Sigh, Johnny. The boy from Tennessee, as I coded him in my diary,' she writes in the book.

'First off, we were both married, so this wasn't going to get physical. But to me, an emotional affair was worse than a physical one.'

'It was like Johnny and I were prison pen pals, two people who wanted so much to be with each other but were kept apart,' Simpson said in the book, according to excerpts obtained by Radar

They kept in touch even after the film wrapped, exchanging romantic notes via email.

'We wrote these flowery love letters back and forth, often at night with Nick passed out in the bed next to me,' she claims. 'We talked about music, and I would listen to the Johnny Cash songs he suggested just to feel like we were still together.'

The Abilene, Texas said they did not hook up out of respect to their 'respective spouses' - Knoxville was married to Melanie Cates from 1995 until their 2007 split, while Simpson and 98 Degrees singer Lachey split in 2005 after a three-year marriage.

Simpson said that at the time, she came to find out she had better chemistry with Knoxville than her actual spouse Lachey.

'It's funny, I know, because I placed such an emphasis on sex by not having it before marriage,' Simpson said. 'After I actually had sex, I understood that the emotional part was what mattered.

'And Johnny and I had that, which seemed far more of a betrayal to my marriage than sex.'
