Christie: It’s not ‘unusual’ for politicians to challenge election results - POLITICO

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Republicans' efforts to challenge the 2020 presidential election results is "not unusual ” — and that he fully expects it to fail.

At least 12 current and incoming Republican senators plan to challenge President-elect Joe Biden’s victory Jan. 6, the day a joint session of Congress is scheduled to consider certification of the Electoral College vote.

The group of Senators, led by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, said they intended to reject the electors from states where they claimed “unprecedented allegations of voter fraud, violations and lax enforcement of election law.”

Christie said Sunday, “It's not unusual for politicians in Congress to play politics, and that's what's going on,” citing Democratic objections in the 2004 and 2016 presidential election results.

“The reason it will go nowhere is because there's been no evidence of widespread fraud,” he said on ABC’s “This Week.” “And that’s been determined by Republican and Democratic governors across the country, it’s been determined, most importantly, by the Attorney General of the United States, Bill Barr.”

Christie expressed confidence in the certification of the election results, however.

“What matters the most, and what makes us the most vibrant democracy in the world, is it will be confirmed in a bipartisan fashion next week, by both the House and Senate, by both Republicans and Democrats,” he added.
