Scott Askham and Mamed Khalidov met for the second time on Saturday — this time with championship gold on the line. KSW 55 in Lodz, Poland was the scene of one of the promotion’s most highly anticipated rematches.
The pair first met in December 2019, with Askham taking a unanimous decision win over Khalidov, himself a former KSW champion. The bout was a non-title affair. Yet despite three straight losses (to Askham, and twice to Tomasz Narkun), Khalidov was slotted for a rematch, and title opportunity, against Askham. The English fighter was making his first defense of the KSW middleweight championship.
Also on the card, longtime veteran Michał Materla took on Aleksandar Ilic, and Olympic bronze medalist Damian Janikowski looked to rebound from a loss to Szymon Kolecki when he took on Andreas Gustafsson.
