The winner of the weekend's NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway accomplished a first with his second.

Martin Truex Jr. became the first multiple-race winner of the 2021 season Sunday after seven different drivers won the first seven races. Truex rallied past Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin for the victory in the Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500, adding to his win at Phoenix on March 14.

The race began Saturday night but was suspended and moved to Sunday after 42 laps because of rain. The race ended under the lights, too, following a late-afternoon restart.

Truex pushed past Joey Logano into second place in the series point standings with the win. Hamlin remained comfortably in first following his seventh top-five finish in eight races.

Below is more about Truex's win, plus the complete results of the Saturday night/Sunday afternoon race.

Who won the NASCAR race yesterday?

Martin Truex Jr. raced door to door with teammate Denny Hamlin late in Stage 3 and then drove off for the win. Truex stayed out front after passing Hamlin with 16 laps to go.

"It was a lot of fun there at the end racing with Denny," Truex told FS1 after the race.

"We raced clean, and we were able to come out on top. It's definitely difficult. We try to race hard, race clean. He was making it difficult on me — I was loose coming off the corners. His car got tight, so we kind of had opposite things going on, and it made it difficult to pass. We played nice. (Team owner) Coach (Joe Gibbs) will be happy. It'll be a cordial meeting tomorrow."

Ryan Blaney won the first two stages but lost track position when he pitted between Stages 2 and 3 while Hamlin stayed out. Then he made a mistake during another pit stop, running over an air hose and carrying it out of the pit box. The ensuing penalty ended his chances for a win. He finished 11th.

Martin Truex became the first two-time winner in the Cup Series this season with his victory Sunday. It was his 29th career win and his third in the past four races at Martinsville.

Chase Elliott got up for second and Hamlin, who led 276 of the race's 500 laps, settled for third. Hendrick Motorsports teammates William Byron and Kyle Larson rounded out the top five.

"It's just the cards we were dealt," Hamlin told FS1. "We had a really good short-run car. We just didn’t have a good long-run car. We just couldn’t get our car to really turn in the long run."

The Cup Series now turns its attention to Sunday's race at Richmond Raceway (3 p.m. ET; Fox, TSN, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). The Toyota Owners 400 will be the third consecutive short-track race in the Cup Series, after Martinsville and the Bristol dirt race.
