The death of Caroline Flack has sent shockwaves across the Love Island world. ITV confirmed it canceled the Sunday night broadcast of the reality show for the second time in a row. Although Flack had stepped down from hosting the program last December after she was charged with assault, she was the face of the show. The British broadcaster released a statement confirming when the entertainment program would return.
“Many people at ITV knew Caroline well and held her in great affection. All of us are absolutely devastated at this tragic news,” a spokesperson for ITV told Variety.
“After careful consultation between Caroline’s representatives and the Love Island production team and given how close we still are to the news of Caroline’s tragic death, we have decided not to broadcast tonight’s Love Island out of respect for Caroline’s family,” the statement continued.
Following news of Flack’s passing, ITV pulled Love Island from their ITV2 channel Saturday night. The episode airs unseen footage from the week that doesn’t make it into the regular broadcast. Sunday night’s episode would have continued the narrative from Friday’s episode. Following the latter, a live show was scheduled where the show’s host interviews the Islanders booted off the Love Island.
In the statement, ITV also confirmed that Love Island would return to the air on Monday night with “a tribute to Caroline who will be forever in our hearts.”
Caroline Flack’s boyfriend shares a sweet message
At the time of her death, Flack was facing media scrutiny after she was involved in a domestic dispute with her boyfriend Lewis Burton. The television host was to make an appearance in court in March. Flack always disputed the assault charges and Burton stood by her along the way.
Due to the ongoing trial, Flack was advised to stay away from social media and not contact her boyfriend. However, Burton broke the pact on Valentine’s Day when he shared an image on Instagram of both of them together.
On Saturday, February 15, Flack’s family confirmed she had passed away. The next day Burton shared a sweet message paying tribute to his late girlfriend.
“My heart is broken we had something so special,” he wrote. “I am so lost for words, am in so much pain. I miss you so much, I know you felt safe with me. You always said I don’t think about anything else when I am with you and I was not allowed to be there this time, I kept asking and asking.”
“I will be your voice baby I promise I will ask all the questions you wanted and I will get all the answers. Nothing will bring you back but I will try [to] make you proud every day,” Burton continued. “I love you with all my heart.”
Caroline Flack’s last Instagram post is heartbreaking
Flack’s last post on Instagram was the sweetest. After not sharing anything since Christmas, she made a collage of herself and her dog Ruby. The precious set of photos showed how much love she had for her puppy. She only captioned the image with a heart and disabled comments from the post.
